After the well has been capped, the situation in the Golf of Mexico is improving continuously. Surface oil is breaking down quickly and naturally now. Clean-up efforts will concentrate on fighting oil, which is still below the surface. In about a week operation "static kill" (pouring mud and cement into the well from the top) is expected to begin. Everybody hopes, that it will seal the well permanently. The relief well could seal it from the bottom (second week of August).
